Today the Google Pixel 2 and 2 XL both got the October 2020 update with security patches and bug fixes, and now we know it's one of the last updates that both phones will receive.
Google has confirmed that the Pixel 2 and 2 XL will get their final update in December. The company explained to Android Police that the Pixel 2 and 2 XL will not get an update in November, but then will get their final update in December that includes the security patches and critical bug fixes from both November and December in a single update.
The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were guaranteed to get updates through October 2020, so today's news means that they'll be getting one more update than expected.
Both phones launched back in October 2017, so they've gotten three years of updates including a bump up to Android 11. And while it's always disappointing to see devices reach end-of-life status, the Pixel 2 and 2 XL did get some of the best software support around for Android phones, getting three years of monthly updates direct from Google plus an upgrade to Android 11 before they were EOL'd.
