CBP seizes 2,000 pairs of 'counterfeit Apple AirPods' that are OnePlus Buds

There are a lot of truly wireless earbuds out there, and this weekend the US government appears to have had a bit of a mix-up involving two major mobile companies who each have earbuds on the market.

US Customs and Border Protection says that it seized 2,000 pairs of "counterfeit Apple AirPods from Hong Kong" on August 31. The CBP explains that the earbuds were seized at JFK airport while on their way to Nevada and would have been worth $398,000 if they were genuine.

However, it looks like what the CBP seized are not fake AirPods but are actually OnePlus Buds. Images shared by the CBP show packaging that's clearly labeled as "OnePlus Buds - White", and the earbuds themselves do look like OnePlus's truly wireless earbuds.

"THAT'S NOT AN APPLE," the CBP tweeted when sharing the news of this seizure on Twitter.

While OnePlus hasn't issued a full statement on the matter, the company seems to be taking the CBP's actions in stride, tweeting "Hey, give those back!" with an upside-down emoji face in response to the CBP's tweet of the seizure. Two thousand pairs is a lot of OnePlus Buds — worth around $158,000 total — so hopefully OnePlus can get its Buds back.
