The update to Android 11 will include lots of new features, like conversation bubbles, media control notification, and smart home power menu controls, and today we're learning about another improvement that's coming with the update.

Wireless Android Auto will be available to all phones that run Android 11. Google recently updated its Android Auto support document to say that wireless Android Auto will work with "any smartphone with Android 11.0 and 5GHz Wi-Fi" (via 9to5Google).

This is a significant expansion from previous versions of Android. In Android 10, wireless Android Auto was available on Google and Samsung smartphones, and on Android 9.0 it was only available on the Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note 8.

Google does note that in the EU, smartphones have to comply with additional regulatory requirements in order to use 5GHz Wi-Fi in the car. There are also some parts of the world where Android Auto can't be used wirelessly, like in Japan and Russia.

Having your Android phone connect to your car wirelessly makes Android Auto even better. With it, you no longer have to remember to take your phone out and plug your phone into your car before you go somewhere and then unplug it when you get out of the car. Not only does this simplify using Android Auto, making the connection process easier by offering wireless Android Auto could get more people to use it more regularly.
