Google today announced that Android phones are becoming mini seismometers to help detect earthquakes, but that's not the only new trick that Android is learning.
First up, Google is bringing its new Bedtime feature to more Android phones. Originally launched as a Pixel-exclusive feature earlier this year, the Bedtime tab in Google's Clock app will help you set a consistent sleep schedule with daily sleep and wake times.
Bedtime can also give you a reminder when your bedtime is coming up and play calming sounds from apps like Calm, Spotify, and YouTube Music. It can show you tomorrow's calendar appointments so you know what you've got coming up, too, as well as help wake you up more gently with a Sunrise Alarm that'll give you visual cues and play your favorite sounds or song.
The Bedtime tab in Google's Clock app is available to devices running Android 6.0 or higher.
Android Auto is getting better, too. You can now check your calendar and even do things like get directions to your next appointment or call whoever you're meeting, all with a couple taps from the calendar app.
A new Settings app will let you manage your Android Auto preferences on you car's display, too.
Google is making its Lookout app better by adding the ability to scan long form documents into readable text, identify products from their food labels, and making the app more compatible with screen readers. Lookout is expanding to more languages and more phones as well.
Lookout is Google's app that uses computer vision to help people who are blind or low-vision get things done more easily. The app is available to devices running Android 6.0 or higher with 2GB of RAM or more.
Finally, Android ELS can share your device's language setting when you dial your local emergency number wherever ELS is available. Emergency Location Service (ELS) is available to more than 800 million people across 29 countries.
With the ability to share your device's language settings with the emergency operator, they can get you a translator more quickly if you don't speak the local language.
Android ELS is offered on devices running Android 4.1 or higher with Google Play Services installed.
