Back in 2019, Facebook announced a new tool that made it easy to transfer your photos and videos from Facebook to Google Photos. It was only available in Ireland to start but eventually started making its way to other countries, including the US and Canada, and now the tool is available to everyone.
Facebook confirmed today that its photos transfer tool is now available globally. This means anyone can jump into their Facebook settings and export their photos and videos to Google Photos.
To do this, go to "Your Facebook Information" in your Facebook settings and select "Transfer a Copy of Your Photos or Videos". You'll then need to verify your identity by entering your password. From there, select Google Photos from the dropdown menu, select "Confirm Transfer" and enter your Google Photos password and the process should begin. You'll get a Facebook notification and email when the transfer is complete.
Facebook says that it plans to integrate more services into its photo transfer tool soon.
Lots of people upload photos and videos to Facebook because it's a widely used social network and so it's easy to share your photos with your friends and family there. At some point you may want to have those photos on a different service, whether you're leaving Facebook, wanting a backup on another service, or for another reason, and so this tool makes the process of copying your photos and videos to a different service easy.
