Seven months ago, OnePlus promised that it would bring Android 10 to the OnePlus 5 and 5T that were released back in 2017. The updates were expected to arrive sometime in Q2 2020, and today it looks like OnePlus has kept its commitment.
The OnePlus 5 and 5T have started receiving their Android 10 update. While OnePlus hasn't made an official announcement about these updates' rollout, OP5 and 5T owners on Reddit and the official OnePlus forums say that they've gotten the update.
These updates don't appear to be hitting everyone quite yet, but OnePlus does typically roll its updates out incrementally so that's likely the case here, too. If you've got a OnePlus 5 or 5T, you should see your update in the coming days.
The updates bump both phones to OxygenOS 10.0.0 based on Android 10 and they both come in at nearly 2GB in size, so you'll probably want to find a speedy Wi-Fi connection before starting the download.
As for what's included, the changelog for the OnePlus 5T's update lists goodies like a brand new UI design, the ability to choose icon shapes in Quick Settings, a Game Space for accessing all your favorite games in one place, and the ability to block spam messages by keyword. OnePlus also says the OP5T is getting Google's Android 10 gestures that include swiping on the left or right side of the phone to go back.
Even though we've known for a while now that the OnePlus 5 and 5T would be updated to Android 10, it's still nice to see their updates starting to roll out. The phones may be three years old but there are still people using them, and now this update will prolong the lives of the OnePlus 5 and 5T.
