Details on Apple's oft-rumored over-ear headphones continue to leak ahead of a possible launch later this year.
After the AirPods wireless earbuds have proven to be extremely successful, Apple is expected to use the brand for its upcoming over-ear headphones, too. Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech says that the upcoming headphones will be known as "AirPods Studio" and will be priced at $349.
The "AirPods" name won't be the only feature that the AirPods Studio borrow from AirPods. A report from 9to5Mac says that the AirPods Studio will have an ear detection feature like AirPods that will use sensors that'll be able to detect if you've got the headphones on your head or around your neck.
This means that the AirPods Studio will likely begin playing when you put them on your ears and pause playback when you take them off your ears. If they detect they're around your neck, they may stop playback but remain powered on so you can quickly resume playback.
The AirPods Studio may also include active noise cancellation and a Transparency Mode, just like the AirPods Pro, letting you block outside noise or amplify it so you can hear your surroundings.
Apple is reportedly including a sensor with AirPods Studio that'll be able to detect your left and right ears, too, which means you may be able to put them on either way rather than have specific left and right sides. And finally, the AirPods Studio are expected to offer custom equalizer settings with low, medium, and high frequency adjustments when they're connected to an iOS or Mac device.
Last year Apple began selling AirPods Pro, which offer a higher-end listening experience compared to the original AirPods earbuds. These AirPods Studio could be another step up, offering all the features of AirPods Pro with even better sound and custom equalizer settings. And with an over-ear design, their noise cancellation should be better than AirPods Pro, too.
