Live Caption started as a Pixel 4 exclusive feature, but last month Google brought it to the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a models. Now it's hitting even more Pixel phones.
Several Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL owners say that they've now got Live Caption. Over on Reddit, folks say that the Live Caption feature appeared after sideloading the latest version of Google's Device Personalization Services app (via Android Police).
If you've got a Pixel 2 or 2 XL and want to get Live Caption working on your phone, you can sideload the Device Personalization Services app yourself by downloading it from here.
Google hasn't made an official announcement about this rollout, so it's unclear how long it could take for the feature to appear for Pixel 2 and 2 XL owners over the air.
With Live Caption, your phone will automatically create captions for videos and audio that you're consuming. It's a nifty accessibility feature that can help you understand what's being said in whatever media you're enjoying, even if a particular app doesn't have built-in captions.
It's good to see Google continue to support the Pixel 2 and 2 XL by bringing these new features to the two phones. They may be a couple of years old, but with regular security updates and new features like Live Caption, they're still capable daily drivers for a lot of people.
