After confirming earlier this week that it's making a display with a 120Hz refresh rate, OnePlus is now teasing what it'll be like to use that display.
OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has posted a couple of videos showing how OnePlus's 120Hz display will be smoother than a typical smartphone screen. In the first video below, two phones are shown scrolling through Twitter, one at 60Hz and one at 120Hz, and you can see that the scrolling on the 120Hz display is smoother.

The second video demonstrates the MEMC tech that OnePlus will use on its 120Hz display. MEMC uses real-time algorithmic adjustments to insert additional frames into a video, helping to push normal 30fps video up to 120fps and result in smoother video playback.

OnePlus used a 90Hz display on the OnePlus 7 Pro and OP7T last year, but this is the company's first screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. As you can see in the clips above, that higher refresh rate can make animations and scrolling look smoother. A display with a high refresh rate is one of the trendier features among smartphones lately, and OnePlus is keeping up with that trend with its new display.
Lau said this week that OnePlus's 120Hz display is "the best you'll lay eyes on in 2020," suggesting that the screen will be used in the OnePlus 8 that'll likely be announced in the coming months.
