Samsung's Galaxy Fold 2 to differ from the company's first foldable in that it'll fold like a clamshell flip phone instead of a book. Now it turns out that that may not be the only big way that the Galaxy Fold 2 stands out from its predecessor.
The Galaxy Fold 2 will reportedly use ultra thin glass as the cover for its display rather than plastic. That's according to leaker Ice Universe, who adds that this will help the Galaxy Fold 2's display look flatter and have fewer wrinkles.
This isn't the first time we've heard that Samsung's second Galaxy Fold might use glass instead of plastic to cover its screen. A report from back in October said that Samsung would use ultra thin glass for its clamshell foldable, and less than two weeks ago it was discovered that Samsung applied for a trademark to the name "Ultra Thin Glass" in Europe.
Most companies making foldables would probably prefer to use glass over plastic for their displays because it looks better than plastic. The issue is waiting for the foldable glass tech to get to the point where it's strong enough and can be manufactured at a high enough volume. Now it sounds like Samsung may have reached that point with ultra thin glass.
Rumors say that the Galaxy Fold 2 could be announced in the first half of 2020.
It can be confirmed that the Galaxy Fold2 leaked not long ago will use an ultra-thin glass cover for the first time in the world, replacing plastic materials. The screen looks flatter and has less wrinkles. In fact, this is the correct cover material for foldable phones. pic.twitter.com/BS73BCsA4N
