Last year we saw LG skip the foldables trend and instead launch its Dual Screen attachment, with both the V50 (shown above) and G8X offering support for the second screen accessory. According to a new report, LG will continue to focus on its Dual Screen device in the new year.
The LG V60 ThinQ is expected to be announced at MWC 2020, which will take place from February 24th-27th. Sources speaking to the Korea Herald say that the V60 will support 5G networks and will also include support for a dual screen accessory. This dual screen feature is said to have an "upgraded folding structure", but no other details on the upgrades are given.
On the LG V50 and G8X, the Dual Screen attachment gives you a second display for running a secondary app, giving you a dedicated game controller, and more. It's got a free stop hinge that lets you hold the secondary screen at any position.
While we don't yet know how LG might upgrade its Dual Screen accessory for the V60, it's understandable why the company would continue to focus on and improve the add-on. Foldable phones are still very young and expensive, and so it could be difficult to convince many consumers to buy a foldable phone. Instead, the Dual Screen accessory is an add-on that people who are interested in can buy if they'd like and they can detach it and just carry the regular smartphone when they don't want dual screens, giving them a bit more freedom on how they use their phone.
