A major focus of Spotify is helping users to discover new music, like using personalized playlists such as Discover Weekly. A new leak shows that Spotify has another discovery feature in the works.
Tastebuds is a new feature that Spotify currently has in testing. Discovered by researcher Jane Manchun Wong, Tastebuds is described like this: "Now you can discover music through friends whose taste you trust." You can view a non-working version of it right now.
Wong explains that you tap the pen icon in Tastebuds to search through the people you follow on Spotify. You can then view information about what those people have been listening to most and listen along or add songs to your library.
Spotify issued a statement about this feature but didn't really say much about it, telling TechCrunch, "We’re always testing new products and experiences, but have no further news to share at this time."
There is a feature on the desktop version of Spotify that lets you see what all of the people you're following are currently listening to. Perhaps Tastebuds will bring a similar kind of functionality to mobile devices, letting you easily see what your friends are currently listening to and then helping you to check those tunes out for yourself.
