Google continues to beef up Stadia this week with the acquisition of a game studio.
Google confirmed today that it's acquired Typhoon Studios. The company is developing its game called Journey to the Savage Planet, a co-op adventure title that'll be released on January 28, 2020.
The game is destined for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Epic Games store, and there's nothing to suggest that those multi-platform plans are changing. Now that Google has acquired Typhoon, it's entirely possible that Journey to the Savage Planet will make its way to Stadia at some point, too.
Typhoon Studios was founded nearly three years ago by Reid Schneider and Alex Hutchinson. With this acquisition, Typhoon will be joining Google's Stadia Games and Entertainment studio that's based in Montreal and is led by Sébastien Puel.
Because Stadia is a new platform and there are several other competing, more established platforms out there, it's important for Google to continue building up Stadia and its roster of games and developers. This acquisition helps to bring more game industry veterans into Stadia and can continue to help build up Google's gaming service in the future.
