OnePlus changed up its smartphone strategy a bit this year, offering "Pro" versions of its OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T phones. And if a new leak is to be believed, OnePlus will bring back its "Pro" smartphone strategy in 2020.
New renders that claim to show the OnePlus 8 Pro have leaked, and the design appears largely unchanged from the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T Pro. The renders aren't official OnePlus images, but are instead images based on info gathered by OnLeaks and 91mobiles.
According to these renders, the OnePlus 8 Pro will ditch the pop-up camera mechanism found on the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T Pro and will instead use a hole-punch camera like the OnePlus 8 is expected to have. The bezels at the top and bottom of the OnePlus 8 Pro's display appear a bit larger than the bezels on the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T Pro, and today's leak says that the OnePlus 8 Pro will have a 6.65-inch display that would be a hair smaller than the 6.67-inch screen of the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T Pro.
Around back is a vertically-stacked triple rear camera setup, like the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T Pro. One change back here is that there's a 3D Time of Flight sensor next to the triple rear cameras. This 3D ToF sensor would help the OnePlus 8 Pro gather depth information that could help produce better photos, including portrait mode shots.
Other features of this OnePlus 8 Pro include an alert slider on the side as well as a USB-C port and a speaker grille on the bottom.
The OnePlus 8 Pro is said to measure 165.3 x 74.4 x 8.8mm. To compare, the OnePlus 7 Pro and 7T Pro measure 162.6 x 75.9 x 8.8mm.
While this OnePlus 8 Pro may not look like a huge upgrade over the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T Pro right now, there's still a lot of info about it we don't know. OnePlus could make other improvements to its internals, like a new processor or some more RAM. The OnePlus 7 Pro launched in mid-May earlier this year, which means we could be six or seven months away from an official OnePlus 8 Pro announcement.
