News came out this week that the Galaxy S10's in-display fingerprint sensor can be unlocked with any fingerprint if certain screen protectors are applied. That's obviously a major security issue, and so today Samsung has come out with some info on the situation and its plans for a fix.
Samsung says that the problem involves its ultrasonic fingerprint sensors unlock after recognizing 3D patterns that appear on certain silicone screen protectors as a user's fingerprint. To prevent any security issues, Samsung says Galaxy S10, S10+, S10 5G, Note 10, and Note 10+ owners should remove their silicone screen protector, delete their saved fingerprints, and re-register their fingerprints.
An update is in the works to address this issue with Samsung in-display fingerprint sensors and silicone screen protectors, and Samsung says it will be released "as early as next week."
While the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 do have other security methods along with their in-display fingerprint sensor, like face unlock and PIN unlock, lots of folks probably use the fingerprint sensor. And while not all screen protectors cause this problem, there are some that do and some folks could end up buying those screen protectors in the future. Because of all that, it's good that Samsung is getting an update to fix the issue quickly, and hopefully it does arrive early next week like Samsung promises.
