Ahead of Amazon's hardware event on Wednesday, more details on what the retailer has in the works have leaked out.
First up, Amazon is said to be working on a new pair of wireless earbuds that also offer Alexa support and fitness tracking capabilities. A report from CNBC backs up a rumor that we heard earlier this year and adds some more info, saying that Amazon's earbuds will include an accelerometer and will support tracking distance run, calories burn, and your running pace.
Previous rumors have also suggested that you'll be able to use Amazon's earbuds to use Alexa to perform actions like answering calls and changing songs and that you'll also be able to order products from Amazon with them.
The earbuds, which are rumored to be codenamed "Puget", will reportedly require an iPhone or Android phone to work. They'll reportedly cost less than $100, but there's no word on exactly when they might launch.
Also said to be in the works is a bigger Amazon Echo device with better sound quality. It's expected to be "the central speaker in Alexa's core home market" with a woofer and higher-quality speaker than the existing Echo.
Amazon's event is scheduled for September 25, which is almost exactly one year after an Amazon event where it introduced new Echo Dot, Echo Plus, Echo Show, and Echo Sub devices. Considering that, it seems likely that we'll see some new Echo hardware at the event later this week, and it's possible that the rumored Amazon earbuds could be announced there as well.
