Like Android TV? If so, there's some exciting news for you today.
Google is aiming to launch the Android 10 update for Android TV by the end of 2019. That's according to someone who attended Google's Android TV presentations at IBC 2019 and shared the info with 9to5Google. There's no word on exactly when the update might launch, but it's currently "on track" to arrive before the end of this year.
Today's report also says that Google is prepping a new piece of developer hardware for Android 10. The "ADT-3" device is expected to launch in Q4 2019. It'll only be available to devs, but this does help to show that Google is committed to working with developers to improve Android TV.
When it comes to hardware that'll be available to you and me, Google's presentation mentioned that new Android TV products are coming in the first half of 2020. No details on exactly what those devices might be were given, though.
Lastly, Google has updated the Android TV upgrade policy. Device makers were previously required to provide three major platform updates to their devices, but now Google will only require two major updates.
Android TV doesn't always see a ton of love, but it's good to hear that Google is still committed to supporting it and getting the Android 10 update out in a timely manner. There are some device makers who put out quality Android TV hardware, and now fans of the platform know that there are more Android TV products coming soon along with the Android 10 update.
