Samsung's got a few new devices to introduce to us over the next week, and today we're meeting the first of the trio.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 is a new high-end Android tablet. It's got a 10.5-inch 2560x1600 Super AMOLED display with an in-display optical fingerprint sensor, which is a first for a Samsung tablet and something we haven't seen a lot of on tablets in general so far. Also packed into the Tab S6 are four speakers to make watching videos and listening to music better.
The back of the Galaxy Tab S6 is home to a couple more interesting features. First is a dual camera setup that includes a 13MP main camera with Live Focus and a 5MP ultra wide angle cam with a 123-degree field of view.
Also on the back of the Tab S6 is an indent where the included S Pen stylus magnetically attaches to the tablet. And when it's attached, the S Pen is also wirelessly charging so that your stylus will never unexpectedly die. The S Pen itself includes BLE remote control features to let you take photos without touching the tablet, and it's got 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity.
Inside the Galaxy Tab S6 is a Snapdragon 855 processor, 6/8GB of RAM, 128/256GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot that'll let you add up to 1TB of additional storage. A 7040mAh battery powers the Tab S6, and you can recharge it using USB-C. On the software side, Samsung has loaded the Galaxy Tab S6 with Android 9.0 Pie.
One other notable feature of the Tab S6 is the included Samsung DeX functionality. When you attach Samsung's BookCover Keyboard (which is sold separately) and hit the DeX key, you'll get a desktop-like experience on your tablet, including multiple windows.
Samsung will begin taking orders for the Galaxy Tab S6 on August 23 and it will officially launch on September 6. Pricing starts at $649 for the model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage and goes up to $729 for the 8GB/256GB model. Samsung plans to begin selling an LTE model later. Finally, the BookCover Keyboard accessory will be priced at $179, but customers who buy the keyboard before September 22 will get it for half-off.
The Galaxy Tab S6 looks like a solid improvement over last year's Galaxy Tab S4, offering an upgrade processor, more RAM, and added camera functionality for those times you want to take a photo with your tablet. The indent on the back of the tablet that can magnetically hold the S Pen and charge it at the same time is a neat idea, too.
We don't see a ton of Android tablets coming to market anymore, but Samsung continues to plug along and release new models on a regular basis. What's more, it's rolling out high-end Android tablets like this Galaxy Tab S6 for folks who want power to get work done on their tablet.
