We're accustomed to seeing Android on big touchscreen slabs, but according to a leaked image, there's a new Android device coming on a form factor that we don't see as much of.
A photo of an Android-powered feature phone from Nokia has made its way online. On the screen, we can see Google's well-known microphone icon that could indicate Google Assistant access or some other voice action, and there are Android icons for Camera, Chrome, and YouTube on the display as well. It's not known what the fourth icon with the arrows could be for.
We can also see Android-style icons at the top of the screen for things like battery level and signal strength. At the bottom of the screen are buttons for Settings, Select, and Alerts, which could give you a way to access your notifications without a notification shade like on Android smartphones.
The device itself is in a case that hides its branding and most of its design. As 9to5Google notes, though, the buttons and basic look of the phone strongly resemble Nokia feature phones.
Unfortunately, there's not much information about the device outside of what we can see in the photo, so it's not clear what features it might have, what it might be called, or when it might be released.
An Android-powered feature phone could be interesting. Google has been using and improving on Android for years, and so features like the Camera and Chrome have been refined over time and could make for some solid feature phone software. Of course, they'd require a little tweaking to work on a candybar phone like this Nokia, but this device could be a good fit for someone who wants smartphone-style features like a browser and YouTube but wants something simpler than a full-on smartphone.
