Lots of new emoji are coming to iOS.
Apple today showed off new emoji that will be released to the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch this fall. There are 59 new emoji coming to Apple's platforms in all, including a sloth, skunk, guide dog, prosthetic arm and leg, butter, banjo, and yawning face emoji.
Also coming is an update to the Holding Hands emoji that will let users select any combination of skin tone and gender. This means that there will be more than 75 possible combinations for the Holding Hands emoji.
These new emoji are based off the approved characters in Unicode 12.0. Apple hasn't said exactly when these 59 new emoji will launch, but it's possible that they'll be released after iOS 13 launches. Last year we saw Apple release more than 70 new emoji as part of the update to iOS 12.1, and so we could see something similar happen this year to help push users to upgrade to iOS 13.x.
