Another Android Q beta update has landed.
Android Q Beta 5 is now available to Google Pixel devices. If you're already enrolled in the beta, you should get the update over the air soon. You can enroll your Pixel in the Android Beta Program right here if you're not already signed up.
Google also offers Android Q Beta 5 system images if you'd prefer to install the update that way. Just keep in mind that these images do not receive OTA updates to future beta builds or the final version of Android Q, so you'll have to flash future builds yourself when you want to update.
Finally, if you've got a non-Pixel device that's in the Android Q Beta Program, you should receive an update to Android Q Beta 5 from your device maker in the coming weeks.
The update to Android Q Beta 5 includes some gestural navigation improvements. Google confirms that it's added a swipe gesture from either corner to launch the Assistant, which we got an early peek at this week. Also new in Beta 5 is a peek behavior for apps using a navigation drawer. With it, users grabbing the drawer will see the peek behavior that indicates that a swipe will bring in the navigation drawer.
Looking ahead, Google says that starting in Android Q Beta 6, users will be switched to a 3-button navigation when they use a custom launcher. Google continues to work on stability and the Recents feature on custom launchers, and it says that it'll fix the remaining issues after Android Q launches and allow all users to switch to gestural navigation.
UPDATE: Hours after releasing Android Q Beta 5, Google has temporarily paused the OTA update to all Pixel devices as it investigates an issue related to installing updates.
