Google Assistant today continues its quest to infiltrate every device in your home by landing on Sonos speakers.
Google Assistant is arriving on Sonos One and Sonos Beam speakers via a software update. With the Assistant, you can play music from services like Spotify, Pandora, and YouTube Music as well as control music playback. You can also get info about your day like traffic on your commue to work, set alarms and timers, get answers to your questions, and control your smart home.
This news also means that you can control any other Sonos product from a Google Assistant-enabled device, like your phone, a smart speaker, or a smart display.
Sonos devices in the U.S. will be the first to get Google Assistant today, followed by the U.K., Germany, Canada, Australia, France, The Netherlands, and more over the coming months.
If you've got a Sonos One or Sonos Beam, the update to enable Google Assistant will automatically arrive. You can then navigate to the "Voice Services" section in your Sonos app's Settings, select Google Assistant, and follow the setup process from there.
We originally heard about Google Assistant coming to Sonos devices back in 2017, and at the time it was expected that the feature would arrive in 2018. Obviously that didn't happen, but at least the feature is now finally going live. Better late than never, right?
