After launching the Pixelbook in 2017 and the Pixel Slate in 2018, Google appears to have teased that it's got another laptop or tablet device in the works.
During its Cloud Next 2019 conference, Google recapped its past couple of Pixel laptop/tablet products. It said that it "started with leaders" with the Pixelbook, which was aimed at "busy executives and information workers", and then it launched the Pixel Slate which was for "customer-facing teams" like sales people in the field, front of house workers, and traveling execs.
Then, 9to5Google notes, Google teased that its goal was to help the modern workforce be "productive on the go". Steve Jacobs, Lead Product Manager for the Pixelbook Group at Google, talked on this topic a bit further, saying that "there's some unique things we can do there’s some unique things we can do differently than the Pixelbook and Pixel Slate that are going to really help give them what they’re looking for when they’re working in this new modern cloud-first era."
No other details on this mysterious upcoming device were given, so it's unclear what it might be or when it might launch. All that Google said is that it has no announcements "this week, but down the road." We've seen Google make new Pixel laptop/tablet announcements in October recently, so it's possible that this mysterious new Pixel product will debut this October.
Last year's Pixel Slate was the target of a fair bit of criticism for its software and performance, and so some folks speculated that Google may not launch another Pixel laptop or tablet device. It sounds like there will be another Pixel laptop/tablet, though, and so it'll be interesting to see how Google follows up the Pixel Slate. Rumors have suggested that Google could be working on a Chromebook with a 4K display codenamed "Atlas", so if you're a fan of the Pixelbook, you may soon get a follow-up.
