Verizon's mobile 5G is officially launching next month.
Verizon today confirmed that its mobile 5G network will launch on April 11th in Chicago and Minneapolis. It'll be live in "select areas" of those two cities at first, but Verizon plans to rapidly expand its 5G coverage area.
In Chicago, Verizon customers will find 5G in The Loop, specifically areas of the West Loop and South Loop and around landmarks like Union Station, Willis Tower, The Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park, and The Chicago Theatre. Coverage will also be available throughout The Gold Coast, Old Town, River North, and around the Verizon store on The Magnificent Mile.
Verizon customers in Minneapolis can expect to find 5G coverage in the Downtown area, including Downtown West, Downtown East, and around landmarks like the Minneapolis Convention Center, the Minneapolis Central Library, the Mill City Museum, Target Center and First Avenue venues, The Commons, and inside and around U.S. Bank Stadium. 5G will also be available in areas of Elliot Park and in the Verizon store at Mall of America.
If you don't live in Chicago or Minneapolis, don't fret, because Verizon recently said that it plans to launch its 5G coverage in more than 30 U.S. cities in 2019.
Now that Verizon's 5G is launching, you'll need a phone to get on that network. Verizon will begin taking pre-orders for the 5G Moto Mod on March 14th at a limited time price of $50 ($349.99 retail). Customers who want to buy a 5G Moto Mod must have a Moto Z3 active on their account or buy a Moto Z3 at the same time. On March 14th, customers can get a free Moto Z3 when they activate a new line on a device payment plan, or they can get a Moto Z3 for $10 per month for 24 months when they upgrade their current phone.
Finally, Verizon's 5G Unlimited service will cost $10 per month with a Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited, or Above Unlimited plan.
