Remember Google Glass? We haven't heard much about Google's wearable ever since the new Google Glass Enterprise Edition was revealed in mid-2017, but today details on a new model have leaked.
Images of the new version of Google's Glass Enterprise Edition model have been spotted by 9to5Google, showing a model with a USB-C port in back for charging and syncing data. That's a big change from the previous Google Glass models that used a magnetic pin setup for charging and data. Outside of that USB-C port, there don't appears to be any major external hardware changes with this new Glass.
Internally, benchmarks have suggested that this new Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 might have a Snapdragon 710 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a 32MP camera sensor that supports 4K video capture at 30fps or 1080p video capture at 120fps. The device is said to run Android Oreo and also reportedly includes Bluetooth 5.0, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and an LTE modem. The model number is said to be A4R-GG2.
There's not much else known about this new Google Glass Enterprise Edition right now, so it's unclear when the device might launch or how much it'll cost when it does.
Google Glass was first shown as Project Glass way back in 2012, and eventually Google sold the Google Glass Explorer Edition to consumers in 2014 for $1,500. Glass offered a heads-up display where you could make calls, send messages, search Google, conduct video calls, and use other apps. However, it never really caught on with consumers. Google then pivoted Glass, making it an enterprise-focused product that could help with things like giving workers real-time instructions while keeping their hands free. The new model will likely be focused on the enterprise, too, but because the tech is still pretty cool, we're excited to see the new version of Glass unveiled and to learn what kinds of new features its got.
