Amazon's Prime Exclusive program has always been about offering discounts on smartphones in exchange for you viewing lock screen ads and offers. Starting tomorrow, though, that'll change.
Amazon has announced that beginning February 7, 2018, its Prime Exclusive smartphones will no longer have ads and offers on their lock screens. This change is being made so that customers can use fingerprint readers and face unlocking features that are becoming popular on smartphones, and also so that they can personalize their lock screens with photos and wallpapers.
Prime Exclusive phones will continue to be offered at discounted prices and they'll only be available to Amazon Prime members. However, the price of every Prime Exclusive phone will increase by $20 as a result of this change. The devices will be sold unlocked and will still come with a selection fo Amazon apps preinstalled.
For anyone who already owns a Prime Exclusive phone, Amazon says that a software update will begin rolling out this week to existing devices that will remove the lock screen offers and ads.
This is a big deal for Amazon's Prime Exclusive phones. The devices have always been attractive because they've offered unlocked smartphones with solid discounts, but the lock screen ads may have turned some people off. Now the Prime Exclusive phones will be an even better deal because you'll get an unlocked phone at a discounted price and you'll only have to deal with a few preinstalled Amazon apps.
