Hot on the heels of the news that Samsung will release a software update to permanently disable Galaxy Note 7 phones in the US, Verizon has revealed that it will not push that update to its customers.
Verizon announced today that it won’t be taking part in Samsung’s update that will prevent the Note 7 from charging. The carrier explains that it doesn’t want to risk pushing the update to customers that don’t have another device to switch to.
Verizon added that it will not release an update that’ll prevent the Note7 from working as a phone during the holiday travel season. “We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders, or medical professionals in an emergency situation,” Verizon says.
The decision to not push Samsung’s Note 7-killing update is just about as big as the update itself. While some will agree that Samsung shouldn’t be disabling phones that are in customers hands, others will argue that every Note 7 is potentially dangerous and that they should all be turned in.
