If you’re shopping for a new Android phone at Sprint, you no longer have the option to lease a device.
A report from Wave7 Research claims that Sprint no longer offers leases on any of its Android devices. Sprint stopped offering a lease with the Galaxy S7 edge back in July, and while leasing was still available with the Galaxy S7 at the time, that option is now missing from Sprint’s website.
Sprint also offered leasing with the Galaxy Note 5, but Sprint no longer sells the Note 5 after launching the Note 7. There’s no leasing option for the Note 7, though. There’s also no option to lease devices like the HTC 10, LG G5, or Galaxy S6.
Without a leasing option, Sprint customers looking at these Android devices can either buy on a 24-month installment plan, a 2-year contract, or at full price.
When asked if it was killing off leases for Android devices, Sprint instead pointed to its installment plan. “Sprint offers $0 down (for qualified customers), interest free option on our installment billing product which is on all handsets,” Sprint told FierceWireless.
It’s worth noting that Sprint still offers leases on the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus.
If Sprint is indeed done offering leases with new Android phones, that’ll be disappointing since it’ll eliminate one way for Android buyers to pay for their phones. As for why Sprint would make such a decision, we’ll probably never get a straight answer, but it’s possible that Android phone leases just weren’t doing well enough for Sprint to keep offering them.
