October 4 is looking like it’ll be a big day for Google, with rumors that the company will unveil new Pixel smartphones, a new Chromecast, and a VR headset on that date. Now a new report claims that Google’s got yet another device that it plans to show off.
Google will reportedly announce an own-brand Wi-Fi router on October 4. The device will be called Google Wifi, claims Android Police’s sources, and will cost $129.
The Google Wifi is said to be “like a little white Amazon Echo Dot” that will have smart features and enhanced range. The highlight feature, though, will be the ability to link two or more Google Wifi routers to create one big wireless network.
What’s interesting about this news is that Google already sells its OnHub routers, which are devices that are offered in partnership with companies like ASUS and TP-Link. While those devices are built by other manufacturers, though, it sounds like this Google Wifi will be all Google, similar to how Google is transitioning from Nexus phones that were announced with a partner to pure Google Pixel phones.
