Google Maps is receiving an update today with a small but useful tweak.
With the new Google Maps, the direction arrow on your blue dot will be replaced with a blue beam. Not only can the beam show your direction, but it can let you know how accurate your phone’s direction is. The narrower the beam, the more accurate the direction of your phone.
If your blue beam is wide, your phone’s sensors might be uncalibrated. You can fix this by moving your phone in a figure eight motion a few times.
This is a pretty small change, but the switch to a blue beam is a good one. Not only can a blue beam be easier to see than a small blue arrow, but it provides the secondary function of letting you know how accurate your direction is. So if you use Google Maps, keep an eye out for this update.
