One controversial feature of the iPhone 7 is its lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack, meaning that owners have to rely on the Lightning port for headphones. Unfortunately for those owners that’ve accepting the Lightning lifestyle and bought an iPhone 7, there seems to be a bug affecting the included headphones.
Some iPhone 7 owners are reporting that the Lightning EarPods included with the iPhone 7 as well as the Lightning headphone adapter will turn off after five minutes of inactivity if the phone’s screen is off. When this happens, the pause and volume buttons on the headphones’ in-line remote won’t work. The bug is intermittent and only affects some iPhone 7 owners.
You can fix this issue by unplugging the headphones and plugging them back in, but that’s kind of annoying. The good news is that Apple has acknowledged the issue and has told Business Insider that the problem will be fixed in a future software update. It’s unclear when that update will begin rolling out, though.
While this isn’t the type of bug that makes the iPhone 7 unusable, it could get pretty annoying for anyone listening to audio on their iPhone for an extended period of time. The point of having in-line controls is to make it allow you to control your audio without handling your phone, like if you’ve got it tucked away in a bag or pocket, but this bug means that iPhone 7 owners have to dig out their device and unplug then plug their headphones back in to fix it. Here’s to hoping that Apple’s update comes out soon so that iPhone 7 owners don’t have to deal with this annoying bug on their new phones for long.
