Looks like the rumor mill was right: Google Allo is launching today.

Google Allo is a new messaging app and is the text-based counterpart to Google Duo, the video calling app that launched last month. Google Also offers many of the features that you’d expect from a messaging app in 2016, like support for stickers and emojis, but it’s also got a few special features baked in.

Google Assistant is available in Allo as a “preview edition.” When you type @google, you can get Assistant to perform searches, get info, and more. For example, you can ask Assistant what the weather is like, what local movie times are, and you can ask it to find you YouTube videos.

Another big feature of Allo is Smart Reply. This feature will suggest replies based on messages that you receive. That includes photos, so if a friend sends a photo of a dog, Smart Reply might suggest a heart emoji or “Super cute!” message, leaving you to respond with a tap. Google says that Smart Reply will improve and adapt to you over time.

There’s also Incognito Mode. When enabled, Incognito Mode will activate end-to-end encryption, discreet notifications, and message expiration on your chats.

Google does say that if you’re using Allo, you can still message friends who aren’t yet using the app. You can send an SMS or, for those on Android, an app preview message.

Google Allo is launching today, Sept. 21, on Android and iOS, and it’ll be available worldwide over the coming days. The app isn’t live in the Play Store or App Store in the US quite yet, but we’ll be sure to let you know when it’s available for download.

Allo looks like a nice app, and Google has given it features like Assistant and Smart Reply to try and stand out from the (rather large) crowd of messaging apps already on the market. We’ll have to wait until Allo is actually available to put those features to the test and see how Allo stacks up to the competition, though.
