After appearing in a render leak and then being shown off in photos, Google’s upcoming Pixel phone may have leaked again. This time, though, the source of the leak is a bit unexpected.
A Nest commercial may have shown off Google’s new Pixel phone weeks before its official announcement. The ad, which aired in the Netherlands and has been saved by Android Police, includes a couple of brief glimpses of a white phone that looks like the one that’s been in previous Pixel leaks.
The phone in this Nest commercial has a distinctive white square at the top of its backside, which could be the glass portion that houses the fingerprint reader and camera. The rear camera and flash appear to be in the same position as those in previous Pixel leaks. Moving around front, we can see a sensor below the earpiece that was in previous leaks, and it looks like there’s a front-facing camera peeking out from the woman’s hand.
We won’t know for sure if someone slipped up and aired a Nest commercial with a Pixel phone before the Pixel phone was announced, but it’s certainly possible. Not only does the phone in this commercial look like the Pixel in past leaks, but Nest is owned by Google, so it’s possible that they’d have access to a Pixel for use in their ads.
