Way back in December 2014, Google launched an Android app called Device Assist that was meant to give you tips on using your phone and troubleshoot any issues that you may be having. Fast-forward to today and the Device Assist app is no more.
Google have quietly killed Device Assist. The app has been removed from the Play Store, and anyone that already has it installed is being greeted by a “Detected Issues” card that reads “Device Assist is shutting down.”
Google haven’t made any announcements about Device Assist’s demise, but they have updated the app’s support page to say that “The Device Assist app is no longer available on the Google Play Store.”
While Device Assist did offer tips to help Nexus, Android One, and Google Play edition device owners better understand their phones, many of the folks that buy those devices probably already have a decent understanding of Android. Unfortunately, if you did find Device Assist useful at one time or another, it doesn’t look like you’ll be getting any new tips from the app.
Did you ever try Google’s Device Assist app?
