The G5 is LG’s current Android flagship, and so it should come as no surprise that the Life’s Good crew is planning to update the G5 to Android 7.0. Today they revealed that select G5 users will even get to test the Nougat update before it’s released to the public.
LG is planning an Android 7.0 Preview Program for the G5 that’ll let 2,000 people test the update early. If you’re selected, you’ll download a special app from the Play Store and then test Nougat, giving LG your comments and feedback to help improve the Android 7.0 update before its public release.
Unfortunately, there’s a catch. LG is only testing the update for the LG U+ of the G5, so only customers on the South Korean carrier will get to taste Nougat early.
This isn’t the first time that a major Android manufacturer has tested a new OS update with select consumers before the public rollout. It’s a smart move because it can give them a wide base of eager testers to help smooth out the update before it’s released to the general public. So if you’re not using an LG U+ G5, at least now you know that your Nougat update will go through some extra beta testing before it hits your phone.
