When the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 launches on August 19, it’ll do so with Android 6.0.1 in tow. With Android 7.0 so close, some folks are wondering when Samsung will update its new flagship to Nougat, and now we’ve got an idea of when that might happen.

Samsung mobile chief D.J. Koh has said that Samsung plans to offer an Android 7.0 Nougat to the Galaxy Note 7 in two to three months. Koh cautioned, though, that Samsung feels that it’s more important to have stable software than rush out an update. “That’s why we are planning to do enough beta testing before any OS updates,” he said.

Google hasn’t officially released Nougat — though it’s expected to sometime this month — so it’s not terribly surprising that Samsung isn’t launching the Note 7 with Android 7.0 in tow. Because the Note 7 is Samsung’s brand new flagship, though, they likely want to get the Nougat update out to the Note 7 as soon as it can. So even though the Note 7 may not have Android 7.0 at launch, anyone that buys one should rest easy knowing that their phone will probably be one of the first Samsung Galaxy devices updating to Android 7.0.
