Incipio and Skullcandy are two major names in mobile accessories, and today they’re becoming one.
Incipio and Skullcandy have announced that Skullcandy is being acquired by Incipio at a price of $5.75 per share. That works out to be a total of $177 million. The deal is subject to regulatory approval and other closing conditions, and it’s expected to close in Q3 2016.
Incipio CEO Andy Fathollahi says that his company is acquiring Skullcandy to “amplify our dynamic mix of products and brands, while bolstering the technical and operational capabilities that serve as the foundation of our platform.” Fathollahi also said that Skullcandy will help Incipio to grow its international presence.
Both Incipio and Skullcandy are well known for their mobile accessories, with Incipio largely known for its smartphone and tablet cases while Skullcandy is known for its headphones. Incipio does sell a few sets of earbuds, but Skullcandy will seriously bolster its audio offerings, including in the gaming market since Skullcandy owns popular gaming headset brand Astro Gaming.
