There are several players in the streaming music service battle, including Apple, Google, Spotify, and Rhapsody, and soon one of them will be undergoing a big change.
Rhapsody has announced that it will be changing its name to Napster. Yes, the same Napster that was embroiled in conflict in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Rhapsody hasn’t shed any more light on the impending change, so it’s unclear when the switch will happen, but the company does promise “No changes to your playlists, favorites, albums, and artists. Same music. Same service. Same price. 100% the music you love.”
Exactly why Rhapsody is changing its name to Napster is a mystery, but the move could help the service gain some attention in its streaming music battle against Apple, Google, and Spotify. Plus, it’s actually been using the name in Canada since late 2015, so it’s not like the name change is totally coming out of left field. Now we just have to wait and see when Napster will hit the US.
