The past few months have been big for Google’s Project Fi. Not only did the service ditch invites, but it also launched a deal that’d give new users a Nexus 5X for just $199. Today brings some more big news for Fi in the form of a network improvement.
US Cellular is now a partner network for Project Fi. US Cellular offers coverage in 23 states, with its 4G LTE service covering more than 99 percent of its subscribers. It is the fifth-largest carrier in the US, boasting a subscriber base of 4.9 million people in its Q1 2016 results.
Google says that US Cellular coverage will automatically roll out to all Project Fi users over the coming weeks.
US Cellular is the third carrier to be supported by Project Fi, and its addition should help to improve coverage and speed for many Project Fi subscribers. That’s especially true in places like Iowa and Nebraska, where US Cellular has much broader coverage than T-Mobile.
