SanDisk’s 200GB microSD card not large enough for your library of content? If so, maybe Samsung’s new card has enough space for you.
Samsung today took the wraps off of its new EVO Plus 256GB microSD card, which offers read and write speeds up to 95MB/s and 90MB/s, respectively. It’s IPX7 waterproof, temperature-proof, X-ray-proof, and magnetic-proof.
With 256GB of storage, Samsung says its new Class 10 card can hold up to 55,200 photos, 12 hours of 4K Ultra HD video, 33 hours of full HD video, or 23,5000 MP3s. You can also use it to capture 360-degree photos and videos using devices like Samsung's Gear 360.
So how much will it cost you to add 256GB of storage to your smartphone or tablet? Samsung says that its new card will launch in June with an MSRP of $249.99. That’s no surprise, as SanDisk’s 200GB card was priced at $239 when it first launched last year. With microSD cards, you’ll have to pay a premium if you want the biggest card available right when it launches. We usually see cards go on sale in the months after release, so if you’re patient, you might be able to save some cash on Samsung’s mega microSD card.
