Just two days after T-Mobile’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge got software updates, Verizon has started pushing updates to its own versions of the GS7 and GS7 edge.
Verizon is pushing maintenance and security-focused updates to its Galaxy S7 and S7 edge that will bump the phones to software version MMB29M.G930VVRU2APD2 and MMB29M.G935VVRU2APD2, respectively. The updates bring “the latest security patches” — which includes the May Android security patches — as well as some other improvements. Here’s Verizon’s full changelog for the two updates (obviously the Edge Screen feature is specific to the GS7 edge):
Interestingly, users on Reddit say that the update also includes a service called DT Ignite that runs in the background and allows a carrier to install apps onto your device after activation or reset. You can disable DT Ignite by finding it in your Application Manager.
If you’ve got a Verizon Galaxy S7 or S7 edge and haven’t yet installed your update, you can check for it manually, head into Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for Updates. While these may not look like the most exciting updates ever, the fact that they include the latest Android security patches means that you probably should install your phone’s update to help keep it secure.
