Being a Nexus owner has its perks, like getting speedy OS updates and buying an unlocked phone that works across carriers. Now it has another perk: Live Cases.
Google today launched Live Cases, a program that lets you create a customized snap-on case for your Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, or Nexus 6. With Photo Live Cases, you can select an image that you took and put it on a case that’ll protect the back and sides of your phone. You can also add one of a variety of filters and art styles to your photo. Photos Live Cases also come with a customizable picture gallery that you can use as a live wallpaper for your phone.
Live Cases also lets you create a case with a Places Live Case, which lets you select a portion of Google Maps to place on a case. Once you’ve selected a place, you can stylize the map by giving it different colors. The live wallpaper for the Places Live Cases is a stylized maps of your location.
Live Cases also come with a programmable shortcut button that lets you launch your favorite app quickly or give you one-touch access to nearby places of interest.
Google is now offering Live Cases in the Google Store, and both the Photos Live Cases and Places Live Cases will set you back $35 apiece.
This isn’t the first time that Google has offered special cases for Nexus phones, as last year it introduced a Google Editions case for the Nexus 6 as part of a collaboration with Skrillex. Live Cases are different in that they’re personal, letting you customize a case with a photo of your favorite person or your pet, or a map of your favorite place. The price might seem a bit steep for a snap-on case, but in exchange you’re getting protection for your phone with a unique design. Folks that love to personalize their phone with a case could really dig Live Cases, because not only can you add your own photo or place, but you can stylize your image, too.
