Remember that gigantic Android tablet that Alcatel announced last year? Well now we know when it’s going to launch, and it’s coming soon.
The Alcatel Xess is arriving on April 22 at a price of $499. Alcatel notes that each Xess sold in North America will come with an IP camera in its box, and when that camera is paired with the Xess’s IP camera portal, you can use the Xess and its 17.3-inch tablet to keep an eye on a child in another room.
That 17.3-inch display boasts a resolution of 1920x1080, and the Xess also offers dual 3-watt speakers with JBL Audio for your content consumption needs. The Xess is powered by a 1.5GHz octa-core MediaTek MT8783T processor and a 9600mAh battery, and it also offers a 5-megapixel front camera, built-in stylus, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a microSD slot for adding up to another 64GB of storage.
On the software side, the Xess is running Android 5.1. It’s running a custom user interface on top of Android, and Alcatel says that it’s partnered with Nickelodeon to offer direct access to Nick content using the Nick App. There are also pre-loaded recipe apps for when you decide to use the Xess as a kitchen helper.
Finally, the Alcatel Xess packs a built-in stand that can angle the device at 75, 50, or 30-degree angles.
The Xess is being touted as “the perfect kitchen accessory,” and its combination of a big touchscreen and stand certainly would make it a nice recipe display. It could also be good for watching TV shows and movies, though, thanks to its large display and dual JBL Audio speakers. Or, you know, if you just want a big honkin’ tablet for browsing the web, then the Xess could serve your needs, too.
What do you think of the Xess? Does a tablet with a 17.3-inch screen pique your interest?
