Days after a rumor suggested that Google may be planning to make tweaks to Android N’s Settings app, a new report has surfaced that says that Android N may bring notification shade changes, too.
Google is said to be working on tweaks to Android N’s notification shade that changes now it looks and functions. The two screenshots that you see below are mockups based on what Android Police claims to have seen in Android N screens shown to them. In the screen on the left, the notification cards are the full width of the screen and are also right next to each other. In each card are details that are currently only shown when you long-press on a notification as well as the app icon and name that pushed the notification. The icon and name are smaller than they are in Android 6.0, which you can see in the image at the top of this post.
Meanwhile, up above that list of notifications is a row of five Quick Settings toggles. They’re similar to Android Marshmallow in that they don’t have names, but they’re larger and run the whole width of the display.
Pressing that arrow on the right of the Quick Settings toggles (or using two fingers to pull down the notification shade) will present all of your Quick Settings. The Quick Settings are now all in the same field as the time, date, and Settings icon, and there’s a page indicator that suggests that you’ll be able to swipe between Quick Settings pages. Finally, there’s an “EDIT” button in the lower right corner of the Quick Settings that hints at the ability to alter your toggles.
The notification shade and Quick Settings in today’s leak look pretty nice. The notification cards look a bit more like the different tabs in Google’s Settings app, and with the smaller app name and icon, Google can fit in details that are normally hidden behind a long-press. Meanwhile, the row of Quick Settings toggles gives you easier access to those switches, much like manufacturer-customized UIs have been doing for a while. Then there’s the paginated Quick Settings, which would give easier access to all of the toggles available.
Of course, it’s worth mentioning that Google is still working on Android N, and so the update’s notification shade and Quick Toggles could look totally different when Android N launches to the public. What do you think of the changes that’ve leaked today?
