One of the more interesting rumored features of the LG G5 is its Magic Slot, which will allegedly let you attach different modules and adds features to the base G5. Today we’re getting what may be our first peek at one of those modules.
A new photo leaked by Android Authority claims to show the back of an LG G5 with a Magic Slot module attached. According to Evan Blass — the original source of the Magic Slot rumor — this is the LG Cam Plus. The module is said to improve the picture-taking experience of the G5 by giving your shooting hand a better grip on the phone while also giving you hardware buttons for the shutter release, zoom, and flash. Also reportedly included is an 1100mAh battery to beef up your battery life a bit.
The second LG G5 module will reportedly be a digital audio chip (DAC) called the LG Hi-Fi Plus with B&O Play. As its name suggests, the module will be made in partnership between LG and Bang and Olufsen, and it’s expected to offer improved sound for the G5.
Those aren’t the only accessories that LG reportedly has planned for the G5. Also said to be in the works is the LG 360 Cam, which can capture 16-megapixel 360-degree stills and Quad HD 360-degree video. You’ll then be able to watch that content on the LG 360 VR. Finally, LG is allegedly working on a Rolling Bot drone that you control with your phone.
It sounds like LG is prepping a pretty large accessory ecosystem for the G5. The device’s Magic Slot and its modules are two features that we haven’t really seen on a major consumer smartphone yet, so it’ll be interesting to see how LG prices the modules and if they actually end up becoming popular. While the modules could add some nice features to the G5, some consumers might not want to carry even one or two around with them on a regular basis.
