After the iPhone 5se name began swirling around the internet late last week, more details about Apple’s rumored 4-inch iPhone have emerged today.
An image has made its way online that claims to show the iPhone 5se next to the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5se, which is the phone on the right, includes an iPhone 6-style design with rounded edges and Touch ID, while the iPhone 5 has squared edges and a regular iPhone home button. While unconfirmed, the source of this image has accurately leaked unannounced Apple products in the past, so it’s worth at least giving this photo a look.
In case you missed it last week, the iPhone 5se is rumored to be a new iPhone model with a 4-inch screen like the iPhone 5s and a mixture of specs from the iPhone 6 and 6s. The iPhone 5se will allegedly feature 8-megapixel rear and 1.2-megapixel front cameras, an NFC chip for Apple Pay, Live Photos, Voice over LTE, and color options that include Silver, Space Gray, Gold, and Rose Gold.
In other iPhone 5se news, a report today claims that the 4-inch handset will come to market with the A9 and M9 chips found in the iPhone 6s. It was previously rumored that the 5se would include older A8 and M8 chips, but it’s now said that there are multiple prototypes floating around. Today’s report also suggests that the iPhone 5se will be available in 16GB and 64GB models.
These latest rumored iPhone 5se bits seem to make sense for a new iPhone model launching in 2016. With the iPhone 7 likely to come out later this year with a new A10 processor, it’d be smart for Apple to include the A9 in the 5se rather than the A8 so that the 4-inch phone doesn’t lag quite as far behind the iPhone 7 when it launches. As for the storage capacities, the iPhone 5s came in 16GB and 32GB models, but Apple has since moved to 16GB and 64GB versions as its entry and mid-range storage capacities, so it’d make sense for the iPhone 5se to be offered in those sizes as well.
The iPhone 5se is expected to make its official debut during the week of March 14.
