One of the oft-cited benefits of unlocked phones is that you’ll often get updates faster than carrier-branded models since the updates don’t have to go through carrier testing after manufacturer testing. That’s exactly what’s playing out now with the HTC One (M8).
HTC’s Mo Versi says that the Android 6.0 update for the HTC One M8 has completed testing. Now that that’s out of the way, the Marshmallow update will begin rolling out to consumers within the next 24 hours. If you want to check for the update manually, grab your One M8 and head into Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check now.
HTC One (M8) unlocked owners! Great news, all testing has been complete and the update for Marshmallow will be sent out within 24 hours. Thx

HTC previously committed to pushing Android 6.0 to the One M8 before the end of 2015, so it’s good to see the company reaching that goal. As for the carrier-branded One M8 variants, those phones will probably have to wait until the calendar flips over to 2016 before they get a taste of Marshmallow.
