Selling the OnePlus 2 invite-free isn’t the only big thing that’s happening in the world of OnePlus on October 12.
The company is sending out invitations to an event in Bangalore, India, that’s taking place on October 12. The event appears to be titled “The Next Big Step,” and it’s being hosting by OnePlus CEO Pete Lau and Vikas Agarwal, OnePlus’s General Manager for India.
As for what might be planned, there are a couple of possibilities being floated around. The first is that this is a “Make in India” announcement that’ll see OnePlus announce manufacturing inside India. Another possible announcement that’s being kicked around is that OnePlus will announce the second device that Pete Lau teased earlier this year. Lau said that the phone will be more affordable and that it’ll arrive by the end of 2015.
Speaking of that other device, Lau recently posted an image that may be a teaser for OnePlus’s next phone. On his official Weibo account, Lau posted a screenshot of a fitness app that shows a running path in the shape of an X. It’s thought that this could be a tease about the new phone, which is rumored to be known as the OnePlus X.
We haven’t seen any major leaks revealing the specs of OnePlus’s second phone for 2015, but Pete Lau has said that it’ll be more affordable than the OnePlus 2, so expect it to be lower-end than that device. The OnePlus 2 currently starts at $329, so it'll be interesting to see how much cheaper the new phone is and what kind of specs OnePlus can offer at the lower price point.
