Following a bevy of leaks, BlackBerry recently decided to make its Android-powered Priv official. Since then, BlackBerry has shown off the Priv in photos and video, and now we’re getting some new hands-on photos from a non-BlackBerry source, too.
Reddit user imsorandom has posted three photos of the BlackBerry Priv after spending some hands-on time with the device. They say that they ran into a BlackBerry executive at a security conference and asked to handle the Priv. imsorandom reports that the Priv “seemed snappy and smooth” and that it’s thinner than the Galaxy Note 5, which is 7.6mm thick.
The photos don’t really show anything about the BlackBerry Priv that we haven’t seen before, but they do offer a few clear, high-res looks at the Priv in the wild. We get to see the phone’s 18-megapixel rear camera, which does feature optical image stabilization, as well as the Priv’s keyboard from the front and the side.
BlackBerry hasn’t said much about the Priv’s specs, but John Chen recently said that it’s got “the latest specs,” including a 5.5-inch display with curved edges and a Qualcomm processor. As I mentioned before, we also know that the Priv has an 18-megapixel rear camera.
I’ve been saying for a while now that the BlackBerry Priv is going to garner some attention at launch, not only because it’s the first Android phone with a physical keyboard in a while, but also because it’s BlackBerry’s first Android phone. Turns out that the Priv is a big deal for BlackBerry, too, because if it doesn’t end up selling well, BlackBerry could stop making smartphones altogether.
