Photoshop may primarily be known for as a desktop image editing app, but it’s been on mobile for a while, too. And while its original Photoshop Touch app is no longer available, Adobe has been pumping out new apps that each offer a few specific features for free, quite a bit cheaper than the $10 it asked for Photoshop Touch. Today Adobe is adding to its Photoshop app library.
Photoshop Fix is now available on iOS as a universal app that works on the iPad and iPhone. Adobe says that an Android version is coming soon. As its name implies, Photoshop Fix is all about “fixing” your images, whether that be using the Healing tools to remove objects from a shot or loading up the Liquify tool to push, pull, and reshape an area. That Liquify tool is the one that Adobe showed off during the iPad Pro announcement when it tweaked a model’s lips to make her smile more.
Among the other tools included with Photoshop Fix is the ability to lighten, darken, or smooth out an image, defocus to blur part of a photo, and remove some or all of the color in an image for a more artsy, black and white look.
Finally, you can use Adobe’s Creative Cloud to send images edited on your phone or tablet to Photoshop on your desktop. When you do, the image will be converted to a PSD file with all edits covered to layers and packages, making it easier to continue your work on your computer.
In my brief hands-on time with Photoshop Fix, the app seems designed well, and its tools are pretty nice for a photo editing app on a smartphone. The Liquify tool will let you make someone smile or frown, edit their jawline or chin, make their eyes larger or farther apart, and generally futz around with their face pretty easily. There are also tools like Spot Heal that let you remove content from an image and a Defocus tool that’ll let you blur part of an image just by painting it on with your finger. You can easily undo any changes you make, and once you’re done editing, you can quickly share your work to Facebook or Instagram from within the app.
